  • So sorry for the delayed response - I haven't checked this account in awhile, and I just saw your question.Today's computers are more than adequate to do something like this in real time - even with an inexpensive laptop. However, you would need an audio device with as little latency as possible (latency is the time it takes the signal to be processed and output by the audio card).A 10-millisecond delay would be comparable to the time it takes sound to travel from your amp ten feet away to your ear, which is perfectly acceptable. However, much more than 20 milliseconds might feel a bit sloppy for time-critical playing (quickly-picked runs as opposed to legato phrases).
