It's such a good material! The polypropylene they are normally made of is so good at making living hinges and is chemically resistant. I have a few other corrugated plastic projects I should put up here and add to the collection.

The ground is lava! Or at least thats a game I like to play so I don't have to come down. I put my foot on fences, posts, ect to stall when there is a red light or place I got to stop. The sling was unrelated to tall biking but I will be careful! Thanks, it's fun to share it and hopefully inspire others along the way. As far as I can tell no one has made 3D printed dies for bending steel tubing in a roller like this. I hope this process can open up some fabrication doors for people by lowering tooling cost or inspire them to learn/design a new process. This was inspired by seeing 3D printed press brake dies.

Hmmm with enough effort and money anything is possible. That seems pretty doable though. I know one company, swag off road, sells a kit to convert this to an automatic roller but I don't think you would have the control you are speaking of for determining the radius and length of arc. As I'm writing this you got me thinking about stepper motors and CNC machines. I reckon it wouldn't be too difficult to hook up a 4 pin stepper motor and circuit board to the driving shaft. From there you run some basic software or manually code something super basic to feed the motor. If the circumference for shallow part of the die was 100 mm then every 1 RPM of the motor would move the tubing 100 mm.Thanks for the question, it got some gears turning in my head.
I tried to get the .FD3 files to share but was having a hard time. I can try again but the STLs are not really worth sharing. The value is in the Parametric drawing where a couple of variables can be easily changed to produce different solid 3D printable outputs. This is my first time trying to explain 3D CAD software in a video or ible, perhaps if I had done a little better job it would be easier to reverse engineer. I updated the portion of the instructable where I talk about how the CAD sketch and solids are made, I hope it helps explain it better.
Glad you like it and thanks for clarifying bender/roller, it is hard enough to know all the terms let alone keep them straight. What bender did you make these dies for? I have a Diacro No2 I also printed dies for using this same method. I plan on making a tutorial for that soon. If your bender has a through hole like my diacro it is very easy to make dies work. The flat plate of the diacro serves as one of the breads to the sandwich. Then you have the 3d printed core in the middle. On top for the last bread you can use a metal or wooden plate the same diameter as the core, then bolt it through the center. I've done dozens of bends 1/2 tubing with a .060 wall thickness this way. They are surprisingly tuff and haven't broken under the long lever of my diacro. I am curious to see how the col…

The curve of the round tubing makes it a bit tricker since you would have to stack a whole ton of really thin discs to get a good match to the round profile, thats why I decided to try printing these.

Those servo motors are a great upgrade for old sewing machines! For about 100 bucks I put one on mine and am very pleased with it. Being fairly new to sewing myself I found that to be one of the best upgrades and it saved me a lot of headaches.

So clever! I love how it didn't require any fasteners and is made from one part! Definitely cooler than the one I made.

Very cool, always wanted to make it over there but NZ was the farthest I got. The things we have to do to play outside here in Michigan are pretty ridiculous! Glad you got a laugh out of it!

Thanks Barb! I got it from rip stop by the roll. Its a color map for outdoor ink custom printing.
I use my hands for signaling to and it definitely isn't as easy with these. The fuzzy blanket material I used is a little grippy on clammy hands. Perhaps making the opening a little wider and using a slippery fabric, like the shell, inside the cuff would help. You could still keep the fuzzy fabric near the middle of the mitten where your hands are while riding. In general my winter riding style is a lot less aggressive so signaling hasn't been that much of an issue since I am leisurly strolling and not trying to beat cars.

Thanks! It was quite the learning curve making cones and tig welding such thin steel (18 Gauge). Since my first one I've made 4-5. It's very satisfying to put all that work in and then see the performance gains!

Nice thanks for that! It's also known by the trade name Coroplast in the US. This is often confused with chloroplast, something found in plants, so I tend to shy away from this term in conversation.
Thanks! They are a blast!
