I love how this turned out for you. It is so cool. It definitely brings back memories of the movie. Now you need to build a working full sized spaceship.

I am wondering the same thing. If I use a belt sander and the board isn't well anchored.... the board will launch toward me the instant contact is made.

I've made cabinet doors in a lot of my projects. I use beads when assembling my doors. Do you find them not needed?
View Instructable »Check it out here. I get mine from here. I call them beads but they are firm rubber balls about 1/8" in diameterhttps://www.rockler.com/space-balls-raised-panel-door-spacers

I have heard of persons using old guitar strings or piano wires on a trimmer. Is that true? Seems to me it would be dangerous and could damage the machine if it snagged a fence wire while trimming.

I really do not think it would be a workable idea. The wood or paper fibers are compressed under a lot of pressure while the glue is drying. If I understood the people at HD correctly the water damages the glue and the fibers expand like a decompressing sponge.

Good work and a money saver. I have made all 6 of my lathe tools in a similar way as you have. One for each type of carbide cutter I use. I l saved tons of money doing that. Here's a photo of 4 that I made.

I too use a planer a lot. I always use a jointer prior to planing a board. I get a flatter board that way.

Does the candle power or wattage increase with this device? In other words would a room become brighter than it would with just three candles?

I had a table almost like yours for years. They are indeed a great item to have. Looking back now I wish I had incorporated a way to lift the back of the table for angled drilling. I currently use jigs for angled drilling. I have two extra tracks on my table for locking the jigs into place.

Dogs are the pins that keep the wood or whatever from shifting as you close and tighten the vise. They are done in pairs as he has done here. The spacing is usually about 6" per pair for as long a surface you need. My table is 6 feet long so there are nine pair. You can buy dogs in 3/4" diameter. I made my own dogs with a 5/8" oak dowel. This size works perfect for me. They fit very snug into the holes I drilled so there will not be any tilting or binding of the board being clamped.
I built one of these myself a couple years ago. I used 2" oak for the faces. I got my vise at Grizzly.com. Look up part number H7788 and it was the best price of any other location I found at the time.
Procrastination? I'm guilty there. It means to put off to the last minute.
View Instructable »I took the front of the vise off and traced the outline and holes onto the wood surfaces. Then drilled them out with forstner bits. It was that simple for me.

Wouldn't it be advisable to scan the used pallet boards with a metal detection device before passing them through a thickness planer? Metal chips or staples can become embedded and well hidden in the wood. Such metal would damage planer or saw blades. It's happened to me before. I now have a wand made just for checking for metal in boards. New planer blades can be expensive.
I've done something similar back in the past. I used mine for a paint brush holder back when I did acrylic paintings. That way the bristles would not be damaged. Also I could see which brush I wanted quickly without having to hunt through them.
