The link for step-down says specifically "Safety Instructional Manual1. The load connected to the output end of the power regulator should not be more than MAX LISTED LOAD POWER, any higher rated load will cause damage to the power regulator."Is that okay still?
Sounds like it Probably has the tamper proof screws. The only difference is that they have a pin in the middle. I usually just find something like a small flat head, and strike it in the middle of torx hole and break that little pin from the center of the screw head
Use an automotive electric window motor and assembly to draw the drawer open and closed. Use a ball bearing or roller type slide for guide. You can wire a kick out for when the drawer opens as far as you want as a safety measure.The electric window motor will require significant juice though...12v 10amp I believe or close to. For this I would use a computer power supply and group all the yellow in one bundle and group all the black wires in another. You will need to search for the proper wiring of a PC power supply. Works great though

Are you certain that the transistor has the same pinout as the one listed here, LED +/- correct direction, faulty LED? Maybe a faulty transistor??? Maple sap should work much better than water.
