  • Make Your Own Ambient Lighting With the Raspberry Pi Zero

    I bought the APA102 lights from Amazon and a big 10a PSU. I wired everything up as per the instructions but (possibly) made the mistake of plugging my Pi into its own, normal PSU. What I found was that when I unplugged my 10a supply and left the Pi powered up, the LEDs and whole system carried on working. So it looks like the LEDs are being powered through the Pi.

    I'm building a version of this at the moment based on a Pi Zero. I've managed to retain a lot of the original camera and I'm going to see what the pics come out like using the original lens. The Pi Zero is mounted inside the old film canister as will the LiPo battery pack I have to power the Pi. I'm not using the same software and I'll be using rlone to upload the images to Google Drive. The question is whether I only upload images that are a week or so old so that I can get the proper retro experience.Fantastic project though. These cameras are cheap as chips on eBay and a lot would end up in the bin if we didn't upcycle them. My challenge is how to get it to take a pic using a button. If all else fails, I'll use my phone with a web interface but it's not the same.When you're no...
