The beginnings of thong under garments might be followed back to medieval times, with some other cultures taking on types in the garment for useful and ceremonial uses. Very early examples include the loincloths worn by historic Egyptians and Greeks. Even so, modern thong as we know it begun to consider design within the 20th century.
