Yes, that would work! I could use one of those for my table saw, sander, band saw, etc.. lol. My initial thought was a block of wood, say 4"x4"x4" (or whatever size works for you). On each side, cut and/or sand the side to the desired angle. Rotate the block and repeat with a different angle. So each block can have four different angles. Label each side with the angle. If more angles are needed, make more blocks. Use the block to set the hinge angle.
Very Cool!! The first thing that came to mind was corn on the cob holders or for spearing hors d'oeuvres (appetizers), like cheese, chunks of meat, olives, etc.

I like this instructable! I'm curious, how does it react when more than one person is on the stairs? One coming up and one going down or two people following each other?
