Great job fabricating those complex forms! Wonderful to see what plain old cardboard can become under skilled hands and a creative mind!

Perhaps another way to explain it might be to recognize that yes, you are measuring circumference of a cylinder, but the tape only displays the diameter of that cylinder. Either way, it's a brilliant way to demonstrate how Pi is used in a "hands on" method - which some kids will love.

Picasso only made a Bull out of handlebars and a bicycle seat - you made a whole freakin rocket ship! I love this kind of project that re-purposes our cast offs. It is especially cool that you create it in a particular consistent retro style. Keep up the great work!
How do you facilitate collimation of the primary mirror? Did you incorporate adjustment bolts for that? It looks like you covered all the bases, but very important to make sure the unit operates very smoothly and holds a given position with it's overall balance in altitude and azimuth. Love the idea and concept!
I'm just laughing and smiling at this. I think we need an online gallery of banana art!
Besides your great technical skills, you really nailed the "pose", it just appears to be floating weightless. Just awesome!

No problem, it's a terrific way to explain the transit method. I do a lot of outreach for my astronomy club and detecting exoplanets is a hot topic. This is way better than just some pics of the process. I'm just amazed we have detectors that can sense those little dips in brightness light years away.
Love the whole concept, especially with the integration of the detector as well. But, is there a way to adjust the gearing so the inner planet orbits faster than the outer, as is typical in orbital mechanics?

Wow, what a neat way to integrate a lot of neat concepts with a hands on project!I was intrigued by your comment in Step 3. "Yikes! Mine is steep!" Shouldn't your horizontal and vertical scales be proportionally identical? In other words if you take any measurement on your y-axis and rotate it 90 degrees, that should be the same measurement on your x-axis. I think your profile then would be less steep and more realistic to the island. Great job integrating all these skills!
