I'm sorry to hear you had problems reading the code! Do you think you could put into words what confused the most about it?All in all the project came together in about a month, with some time off during the holidays. Soldering to the little chips was pretty challenging and I had to redo the whole bit shift setup a couple of times. Another unfortunate things was that I set out to print the case in transparent XT filament. The central heating in our makerspace was down for a couple of days and I had trouble getting the print head to a high enough temperature to melt the super tough XT. I think I spent around 2 days making more than 20 failed prints until I found some settings that worked.

You're absolutely right. I'll add the introduction as a recommendation for people that want to recreate the project. This was my first time working with arduino and I wanted to build something cool with just the components that were included in my starter pack. It also was a pretty neat exercise to be working with the shift registers and learnt a lot of new stuff!
