One other data point. I'm also getting an intermittent error: Yikes! Invalid device signature. Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override this check.I believe I must have chosen the external clock setting at some point which ... from what I have found on the internet apparently permanently sets the clock to external (do you know if this is the case?). I'm going to purchase a few new chips to try.

Thanks. Still no luck. Actually, the past several times I have tried, the arduino program says it is done after only a few seconds, and then the error light comes on on the YAPS. But to be sure I subsequently tried to upload the SMD_spinner sketch. That resulted in the error: compilation terminated. exit status 1. Error compiling for board ATtiny24/44/84.Any advice much appreciated. My son is super anxious for me to get it working :)Kyle
