May I suggest that when you are at the step of buying a strip of LEDs, if you go the China's way (it'll take a month), there's two kind of white leds: Warm and cold. For this purpose of scanning photos, go with "COLD white". It gives the perfect luminosity for this, because it's like a real flash like we used to have on old cameras. And if I am wrong, be gentle with me. eBays LEDs sellers are fine, I bought from a few. Just check their feedback and usually stick to those who are over 99% but I've tried a few which were at 98 and even one 97% and I received the right packages.
