I've done several iterations of the dollar store LED light with an attached switch. Several, because the lights kept getting stolen (homeless people, I suspect). In any case, it's pretty simple to do, just pop apart the plastic case of the light, and put the push switch somewhere in series between the batteries and the LEDs. The key is the switch. It's called a lever switch and is off when the switch is activated and on otherwise. Position the switch so that the lever is moved when the door closes. Hopefully, yours will last longer than mine.
