The main reason is that it gave me some errors back in 2018 on an older version of Arduino IDE (In a current version of IDE there are no errors, but also no visible difference). I defaulted and turned it off in case anyone uses older versions of IDE. The only thing LTO does as I understand is that it compresses the code resulting in a smaller size.

Yea, I don't have a simple answer. At the time I was building this PCB I also designed a smaller board with little to no space for connectors so I ignored it here ... Will definitely look to include it in upcoming designs, providing there is enough board space :).
