Easy Generator to Home Hook Up

In a generator scenario, this is very true. But I also want to point out that a male to male can be useful in some situations. In my previous home my tv was wall mounted. It was a code violation and just an all around no-no to fish the power cable down through the wall. So I mounted 2 un-powered outlets one down low, one up high with the proper in-wall wiring, and made myself a male to male cord, going from my power conditioner/surge protector to the bottom outlet, thus powering the outlet up high behind the tv. It made for a safe installation and also provided surge protection for my tv that way.

Thanks for the write-up. I recently bought a Champion 3800/4750 dual fuel generator. We keep having power outages in nearly every storm in southwest pa. Last night I had cords all over the house. Kids trip over them and it is a pain. I am considering this interlock installation, but I will have to see if I can find connectors that will work. I have 2 connectors on my generator that could be used for this, one is a 30 amp TT-30R RV 3 prong connector, the other is a L5-30R locking 30 amp 3 prong connector. Last night I had the deep freeze, fridge, microwave, 60" tv and a few lights with no issue aside from flickering of the lights when I ran the microwave. So that makes me think I could wire into the breaker box and just be sure to keep the breakers turned off for the power suck...
