I guess the wire is galvanised which is why you needed to sand it to get a good earth and phase contact, it a nice welder, i actually might make one for some ideas i have in mind, microwaves are abundant at the tio, fuses and switches not sadly! but i do have some 8mm copper bar i got from the metal scrap yard i could use, i will give it a go i think what voltage are you putting into it? I missed it somewhere

nice idea, i favor blending component, you could make a brass top or inox top to the project and wire up a touch sensor onto that, they cost 199 more or less off ebay and are brilliant to dim lights as long as they are filament and not leds, so an old edison non led replica is a good lamp. i use the sensors on steampunk lights i make. that way bu interacting with the lap touching it here and there different things will happen or move or light up

you could do it with a pir movement detector if you want or a photcell on a simple circuit to turn on and off the lights but this is very simple , not for 220 volts though boys and girls not unless you really know what you are doing, or you would be better off to buy a 220 volt touch sensor module off ebay and wire it onto a little brass plate on the shelf, touch the plate and it lights touch it again it dims, again dims again its off again its on, they cost 1.99 off ebay uk.

great idea i have a new huge selection coming and was thinking of lots of plastic drawers but small index cards and a shoe box for kids will keep them safe and sound and easy to find when you need them, cost virtually nothing but your time, priceless
