I actually have an old school plotter that i want to do just what you describe. Im trying to use the original rotary encoded DC motors for X Y, and a solenoid with an encoder as well for Z. Im hoping to use a Teensy3.6 for the brain and maybe a KFB2.0 (arduino Mega with RAMPS all in one board) with Marlin. Im completely a newb but i have been learning alot about it. just need help putting it all together, software wise

great write up! Im in the process of gathering parts for my XY plotter/cutter upcycled from an old plotter. DC encoded motors, endstops, and Z axis. I was going to retrofit nema 17s but after continually researching, i am confident that either my KFB2.0 or soon to arrive Mega will be able to handle these with either a quadrature shield or something. if I can control all of these encoded motors, it will make completing this project more likely.

i may just put a cheap android tablet in the hole that used to have a keypad in this new plotter im forging ahead on. its 7.5" diagonally across, I could get a decent cheap tablet and load octo print on it and thats the interface instead of a application specific touchscreen that i mentioned previously. we'll see tho. I am taking TONS of pics with this one every step of the way and I have a draft of an instructable that ready to be published when its completed, working or not. as Adam Savage says, Failure is an option. These projects, with your help on here, is teaching me a lot and im confident that it will turn out!

ok so i have an Epson EA-D20025AR LCD module i want to have as a display with my arduino based project. I am attempting to reuse it from a machine i got for free, but it has 14 pins instead of 16. is it still useable with an arduino?

I can't wait for your KFB 2.0 instructable! my steppers are in, the drivers, endstops, power supply and brackets are on their way as well. I also ordered a DVD drive stepper motor with a mounting bracket for my Z axis. I'm gonna need some guidance so I dont blow up my new toys! I enjoy reading your stuff, it keeps me motivated to see my project through.

might just have to build this for my plotter conversion. if i can't get the original gantry to work, Ill replace it with this! thankfully the HP extrusion can be unbolted from the main superstructure. might need to do some minor fabrication of brackets that would allow this to be bolted on in its place. very good design, clean, and simple.

I did find a data sheet, included the PDF so there is a pinout but because ive never hooked one of these up, im a little gun shy but i may just go for it and see if i can drive it and if its worth it to use, might have too many steps but we will see.2. its a single rail gantry. the print sled has a spring loaded wheel that rides on the inside of the extruded aluminum. i may still use that and build the plotter on it. otherwise ill probably use a standard extrusion, and use CoreXY's build for the gantry 3. the power supply has 5v, 12v, and 24v, so i think it will have enough power, again have to test and see. if not, then a standard 3d printer power supply will g...

nope, this is my first time getting a machine that was worth converting into something else. I have recently gotten a copier but it was useless except for the parts, and im not even sure if i can reuse them.

im gonna take this project and use it to make a liquid acrylic paint dispenser for my desk. I paint at my desk and real estate on it is at a premium. so im going to make this to accurately dispense paint for my palette and keep the bottles/pumps under my desk and just have a dispenser. if i do manage to make it, ill make an ible for it

i just took apart a small copier machine and got a few motors. an induction motor with a squirrel cage fan attached to one end and the other is geared, also got a synchronous motor as well. there was more to get from it so i basically saved the metal substructure, and everything else. i did manage to open up the damned toner cartridge but managed to keep the mess to a minimum. saved all the metal pieces from that. I have no idea what to use the motors for, but the big one (induction) is rated at 60hz, 120v 3300RPM and the small one is...oh i put it away but its 120v. so what can i do with the induction motor?

also could we have more information about the LCD? what kind to use, and how to hook it up
