Hi..I'm a teacher, and am seriously thinking about building this next year with my Gr. 9 Science class....One question I had was what is in the telescope? I understand you 3-d print the case, but is there anything inside?Thanks!
The shift register allows the microcontroller to control many digital outputs while only using up 3 pins on the arduino. 8 bits of data (on or off) can be sent by the arduino to the shift register, which then sends it out and awaits for the next 8 bits. eg 10101010 would light every other led, or whatever is attached to the pins of the shift register. Without the shift register, this would take 8 digital pins on the arduino. You can also chain multiple shift registers together, so 8, 16, 24 etc pins can be controlled with just 3 pins on the arduino.

I have string of 25 ws2511 leds . They will be mounted to a board which will attach to the back of tv with wall-mount bolts. so I'm hoping the computer can divide the 4 edges of the screen into boxes to match the position of the leds. then have computer figure out the light colour of each "box" around the edge of hhe screen and send it via arduino to the corresponding light. j don't want the entire screen captured, just the edge. Or do you think that my idea won't work? I'm new to all this...but excited!!
I'm just waiting for parts to arrive to build this project. I'm using 25 addreeabke led modules spaced around the screen. I'm wondering if it's possible to divide the edge of the screen into 25 boxes and read the colour in each box and send to the corresponding led? Thanks again for the inspiration!

So the MOSFET takes the lower voltage from the Pi and transforms it to 12v? Do all MOSFETS do that?
