great post, thank you. Would the queen bee come with them do I need to find it elsewhere?
Wow, I didn't realize that.. Many thanks! PS: Do you have a phone of what it should look like?
Many thanks! I didn't realize I needed so many resistors! Do you have a photo that shows how it should look?
Great, but the implementation needs more photos.Btw: how can you identify the wires of an x-ray bulb? the two wires that come out look identical. One of them must be ground.. I have the bulb that's shown in upper right in your photo of coolidge tubes.
There are also Scintillation Screens that you could get.. They apparently glow when xray hits them.. like here: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XScintillation+Screen.TRS0&_nkw=Scintillation+Screen&_sacat=0
Guys I put 900 kohm resistors after the cascade output to reduce the crazy current, and I get a nice blue glow from the tube. I put 6 resistors: 3 in series and 2 in parallel, that is, they are two by two attached to each other. each is 1 watt, but they keep sparking even under oil. And they develop these black spots on them! What shall I do?
PS -- the resistors are all 1 watt. Together they create about 900K ohm.
I meant the plastic container where the cascade is.. Seems impossible to do this in air..
For those not wanting to bother with the ZVS creation, there is this nasty beast as well:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262909505642?_trksid=p20... lots of volts and amps :)
This works -- BUT, for ~ > 30 Kvolts the first resistor ARCS around. So you get a nice big flash and buzzing! Perhaps it needs to be submerged in oil during use? yuck but yeah.
Yeah I killed mine :) It just displays 0.61 now for some reason :)
Guys, I need some expert advice, I'm afraid of blowing up my circuit.I have a ZVS that works well, a reliable DC power supply and I just added a Cockroft/Walton that works. I only have a little bit left to do:The Cockroft/Walton needs a GROUND IN.. Do I connect it to the V- of the power supply? (The power supply also has a ground connector I can connect it there too)? Many thanks for any input.
is your tub oil filled?
Where did you find the 2.2MΩ 10W resistor?
Very nice! Thank you so much :)
Try ebay :) like 25 dollars for 8
what is the exact name of the tube you mentioned? There seems to be a variety of 201A's out there...
Mine worked only when I used pin 8.. Pin 1,2,3 did not produce any "glow", only pin 8 did..Say, what is the number of the tube that does not have the lead in its glass?
smealum.net/regionfour/ is gone :( now what?
If there are other noobs like me: 0.68 uF = 680 nF
This is odd, but my capacitor keeps getting warm, but nothing else.. and I get no arc... what could be wrong?
GUYS: This is serious: I am not getting 47-200 uH with 20 turns; I'm getting that value with only FOUR turns of the 1mm enameled wire. I'm measuring it with a Henry-meter..What shall I do?? Was it suppose to be 47 mH-200 mH instead? Because that would need a lot more turns than just four..
here it is:
Many thanks.. so, one lead goes to pin one, and the other one?
Did you really mean that the inductor should be 47uH to 200uH?I am achieving 0.2 mH with only FOUR turns of a 1mm enameled wire, not 20.
The flyback transformer part is not well explained: What do we do with it?I am assuming that we buy/find a TV transformer, and wrap 5x2 coils onto it, and use its output as our high voltage lead?
Which pins of the BK4C 6EL4A do you use?
