Hello, I'm not sure about the exact name of the bead, but it was an oval black glass one I had laying around. These were all repurposed/leftover beads from various projects.

Research I've done show that more layers are not that much more effective for cotton and actually cut down on breathability. You can also make twice as many masks with one layer. I'm using washed baby receiving blankets which are also already a bit thicker.
