Thank you SOOOOO much. I was looking into vacuum systems for stabilizing wood and stumbled onto your 'ible. I teach woodworking at Techshop San Francisco and this is just the most logical thing in the world that I never thought of - thank you for opening my eyes to this possibility!

Glad I could help inspire! I did my first one freehand too, but when I went back I just wanted some help getting things cleaner. I also made a handled one with a spline like you are describing as a gift for someone - sadly don't have a picture of it, but it worked well - I used maple teeth and walnut handle and spline for that one.

Neck was CF, with extra material and resin inside to add stiffness. I did this as an experiment with a group of people at my makerspace, one person pursued using a cf soundboard, but unfortunately they got side tracked - i didnt get to hear itnif they finished.

Sorry I just saw your comment now, though I'm having trouble picturing what you are asking. If you are talking about cutting the boards at an angle instead of straight on I suppose that could work as long as you can glue the strips together. Any angle cut at all should show some end grain, though if we call 0 degrees face grain and 90 degrees full end grain I would think around 45 degrees would be a clear transition tipping point - but never really thought about it that way. Try it and find out!
