Introduction: 2.4 Ghz 12dBi Directional Antenna on 3D-printer (suitable for WiFi, RC-models and NRF-connection)

You can significantly increase the range of communication for only three dollars.

Supplies

To do this you need just printed mask, two layer plate for PCB, RP-SMA connector and 100 gram of Na2S2O8.

Also we need some spray paint, at least 60W soldering iron, & about 10 grams of solder like Sn60Pb40-SW26/2.5%

Step 1:

For begin, print antenna mask from Mask.stl file and tape to the PCB(180х60mm or little bigger).

Spray some paint on it and repeat after drying with the other side.

The mask on the second side should be located symmetrically to the first! 

On one side, make a bridge between the layers of paint with nail polish (red dot in the photo)

Step 2:

Dissolve the reagent in 1.5 liters of distilled water with a temperature of 50 degrees Celsius.

Place our PCB into it ( і used a cut up plastic bottle ).

To speed up the reaction, і put everything on the table of the 3D printer at 50 degrees Celsius.

After the copper dissolves (several hours), remove the PCB and rinse in warm water.

Step 3:

Dry the printed circuit board (you can use a hair dryer). 

Remove the paint layer with varnish remover or sandpaper.

Use a soldering iron to apply solder to the copper parts.

Connect the end parts of the antenna with wires as shown in the photo.

Step 4:

Solder the antenna connector.

The antenna is ready for use.

Do not install the antenna closer than 20 centimeters from metal surfaces.


Of course, you can make many antennas with the printed mask & reagent.
