Here, you will create a flower pot in the shape of the Hanging Gardens, one of the ancient 7 wonders of the world. The design features 4 levels of plants and an easy watering method that makes maintenance much easier.

Supplies

For creating this project, you will need:

3D printer
3D printing files (listed in step #1)
computer (for uploading the 3D files)
any color of filament (plastic)
potting soil
spoon (to place the soil)
multiple types of plants
brush or straw to clean up the dirt

Step 1: Uploading the 3D Files

First, you are going to upload the files that I have attached here, to a slicer program on a computer. Then, make sure to scale it up to the wanted size (I would recommend about 165 mm. long/wide). You can set the infill to whatever you want, but 5-15% works best for speed. Make sure to print the first file, because that is the pot itself, but the second file is optional and it is a set of stairs to be placed on the front of the design once printed.

Step 2: Printing the Model

Next, print the pot in your desired color. I have used white and would highly recommend it. This will take anywhere from 1.5 days to 3, depending on the size and infill.

Step 3: Filling the Pot

Now, set up your printed pot on a mat of some sort to keep the table from getting dirty. Fill the pot with soil on all 4 levels. This is most easily done with a spoon to get it in the smaller spaces.

Step 4: Arranging the Plants

Next, select the plants you would like to have in the planter pot. Plants with longer vines, mosses, and grasses work well for this design. Place the plants all around the pot.

Step 5: Optional: Adding the Stairs

If you printed the stairs earlier, you can attach them to the front using a small amount of glue.

Step 6: Enjoy Your New Hanging Gardens Planter Pot

Congrats! You have now created a Hanging Gardens planter pot. For easy watering, pour water directly on the top of the structure and watch it cascade down to all of the plants. Your plants may experience transplant wilting like mine in some of these photos, but they should bounce right back into healthy, growing plants. Enjoy!
