    Hello, lovely advice thank you!
Could you please advise how long it can take for the turmeric smell to go? I tried to cook it for a while & there was still a smell, though I thought it might be a normal smell & stopped cooking.
    Thank you :)

Cool, just thought I might add that tumeric can cause infertility in men and an iron deficiency so don't take too much

curious, i looked this up... webmd agrees with this iron deficiency comment, but there is more detailed information at

    https://www.turmeric.com/turmeric-safety/can-turme...

it says that although the chemistry and also lab and animal studies agree with your comment, that human studies have shown just the opposite, especially in women. it's so odd how individual chemistry, too, can cause us to respond in different ways! ...thanks for the heads up, though; i always want to know as much information as i can when trying something new.

Hi, great recipes for turmeric, thanks. I use an organic powdered Turmeric in a drink I make, most every day. Is it important to cook the Turmeric first? You keep mentioning to get past the raw smell of it.

Thank you very much. I do not think it is very necessary to cook turmeric first before consuming. It is good to take it uncooked. Cooking the turmeric is to remove the raw flavor and taste it adds to the dish(especially for the kids).

Can I add the paste to my morning smoothie made with kefir? Will turmeric have any negative effects on the probiotics in kefir?

Yes, turmeric is great with kefir - although smoothy should not have any FRESH fruits in it as it is not compatible with any milk products.

I would like to ask you, if I may, about the smoothies I have been making. I use fresh fruits, such as Apples, Pears, Bananas, Kefir, Milk, and Turmeric. I now realize that this not a good thing. Would you please explain as to why that is so. I must be losing the Benefits of Turmeric. Thank You.

yes, research has shown that adding pepper multiplies the benefits of turmeric.

Great Insturctables! Many really good points on the turmeric and milk :) Just a friendly remark, you should never heat the honey. And for the smoothy, fresh FRUITS are not compatible with MILK. You can always use dried or preserved fruits.
Thanks for your effort and great photos!

Excellent Instructable. Thank you for all these recipes. I have been thinking about trying turmeric but didn't really know how to use it.

I don't know if I can get turmeric root where I live. Will powdered turmeric work?

That's good to know, thanks. I was thinking about it and I might be able to get some of the turmeric root, if I look in the right stores. I've just never looked for it before.

I've been using Turmeric since the 70s in all my cooking. GREAT STUFF. I have a question about the paste recipe above. Is the Tsp reference for Tablespoon or teaspoon. Typically the capital T is for Tablespoon and the sp is for teaspoon. This is a combination of the two. ???? Could someone please verify.
