Introduction: Makey Makey Electric Drums / Drum Machine

This tutorial on how to build an set of electric drums, is an entry into the Makey Makey competition.

material, will vary on availability and personal choices.

Cardboard can be replaced with more durable materials, and layered with foam/ other for texture.

Chop sticks can be replaced with wood, real drum sticks, or other.

Alligator connection clips can be replaced with more durable / permanent wire.

These steps are not shown because, the steps shown are in my opinion, the most available supplies, and easiest to make.

Drum "Holder" / "Stand"

Pencil / pen / marker

Scissors

cardboard / (other material) [Depends on number of drums]

Tape (optional)

Alligator clips / wire

Makey Makey

Laptop + Scratch

Aluminum Foil [Amount Depends on amount of Drums]

Foam (optional)

Step 1: Step 1: Drawing Drum Head

Take you first piece of cardboard, and flip to the brown, ("Un-colorful") side.

On the brown side, draw a large, drum (depends on what type of drum you are making), with a small square attached.

Step 2: Cut Out Drum

Cut out the drum, along the previously drawn line.

Step 3: Step 3: Aluminum Foil

Wrap the freshly cut out drum, in Aluminum foil.

(Also wrap the "Square")

Step 4: Step 4: Dum Sticks

Seperate the chop sticks

(optional) sandpaper or rub chopsticks on each other, to remove any possible splinters.

Wrap the chop sticks in aluminum foil and attach wires or Alligator clips.

Step 5: Step 5: Kick Drum / Pedal

Draw a rectangle large enough to fit around foot.

Afterward cut out the rectangle

Step 6: Step 6

Tape the rectangle to fit around foot.

Step 7: Step 7: Wiring

Attatch: "Kick pedal" and "Drum Sticks" to "Earth" on the Makey Makey

Attach: Drum head to appropriate "Slot" / (Up arrow, Space, Down Arrow, etc.)

Clip alligator clips to "square" on drum head.

Step 8: Step 8: Scratch

Create a scratch account

Create Makey Makey blocks and link them to the appropriate Makey Makey Controle (up arrow, down arrow, space, etc) and appropriate drum sound.

Example: link kick drum sfx to up arrow. Link physical, kick drum head, to up arrow, and kick for foot, link to ground.
