Introduction: Battery Less Powerful Solar Charger

So many Solar mobile phone chargers are available in Market but the common problem with those solar chargers is their panel is so small that it can't charge a single mobile phone in less than 24 hours and some chargers takes more than that. Due to cheap prices their solar panels are of very low quality and the built-in battery ratings is also too low so those chargers can't even charge mobile phones that have big batteries (i.e over 2000 mah).

Therefore I have constructed this charger with high quality and high power material even it wont need any additional battery. It directly charges cell phone with solar power.

Step 1: Requirements

You just need two core components

1 - 12V / 5 to 10W solar panel

2 - 12V - 24V Car mobile charging dock.

Both of these components are available easily in market cost of solar panel here in Pakistan varies between 1$ per watt to 3$ per watt depend on quality and quantity the one I used in this project was purchased at 2.5$ per watt / 10W panel.

The other component is car charging dock that is also available between 1$ to 2$ here in Pakistan so I have purchased it in 1$.

The total components cost is approx 26$

Step 2: Construction

Now just connect +V terminal of Solar panel to the bottom terminal of charging dock (+ve of Solar Panel with +ve of charging dock and -Ve of Solar panel with -Ve of Charging Dock) and -Ve terminal of Solar panel with side terminal of charging dock.

That's it your solar charger is ready, just connect charging cable and put solar panel in direct sun light.

You can also add additional external battery like any power bank so you can charge power bank with solar panel and then utlize power bank when you need the power most.


  • You can charge mobile phones
  • You can charge mobile banks for later use
  • You can charge EVO devices
  • You can run LED emergency lights
  • You can power any USB Device (Walkmans, computer equipments and a lot more)

    I made it. I used a 20W Panel and a adjustable buck converter module with LM2596 from ebay. The ones you can adjust voltage and current. So I can charge different Battery types.

    Depend on battery -

    from 800 to 1000 mah = 1.5 to 2 hours

    from 1200 to 2500 mah = avg 3.5 to 4 hours

    2800 to 3200 mah = 5 hours approx

    If you use it with a battery it time will reduce approx 50%

    For larger batteries you probably will want to upgrade to a 2.1 amp charger. Most tablets and phones with the larger batteries(especially newer samsung and apple devices) can suck down massive amounts of power, and the 12V-5V converter is the weak link in this energy transfer.
