Introduction: Bread Dragon

Hi guys, today I am going to show you how to make a bread dragon. This recipe is based on a Swiss bread called Grittibänz, which you would normally find in the shape of people.

Supplies

For this recipe you will need

Ingredients

3 cups flour

2 tsp salt

1 cup milk

20g yeast

1 egg

1 tbsp sugar

1/3 cup soft butter

Tools

2 bowls

1 small bowl

whisk

spatula

parchment paper

baking pan

Decorations

dried cranberries

Step 1:


In one bowl (wet ingredients) whisk the yeast, milk, egg yolk, and sugar.

In the other bowl (dry ingredients) mix the flour and salt.

If you want your dragon coloured add food colouring to your wet ingredients

Step 2:

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients bowl and stir well with the spatula until the dough starts to form. You do not want to use the whisk for this because all the dough will get stuck in it and it is a pain to clean.

Step 3:

Add the butter and start to knead the dough for 10-20 minutes or knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic.

Step 4:

Put plastic wrap over the bowl and let rise for about an hour of until it has doubled in size.

Step 5:

Now it is time to shape the dragon.

  1. split the dough into a 2/3 piece and a 1/3 piece
  2. take the the 2/3 piece and make it into the body of the dragon
  3. take the 1/3 piece and split into two halves
  4. take one half and make the basic shape of the head (make a sort of circle and press out the mouth)
  5. take a bit of the other half and add a tongue and horns to the dragon's head
  6. out of the remaining dough make a ridge
  7. add the head to the thicker side of the body and put the ridge along the top of the body
  8. add dried cranberries for eyes and add nostrils


Now it is all up to you, do you want to add the scale texture using dried cranberries, or do you want to draw it on, or do something of your own?

It's all up to you!

Step 6:

Bake the dragon in the oven for 20-30 minutes at 375ºor until it sounds hollow to the knock.
