Introduction: Candy Cane Wreath

About: I am passionate about my career as a math teacher, enjoy anything outdoors, love to travel, and enjoy putting a smile on others faces through my creations.

Here is an original idea made from very inexpensive items found around the house that really looks great when put together.

Items you need:
- Candy canes
- Hot glue gun/ glue sticks
- canning jar lid (or any circular item to glue the canes to)
- Ribbon
- Tape (optional)

Step 1: Making the Base and Starting the Wreath

I used the lid of a canning jar to affix the candy canes to.  To make the base more smooth and curvy tape around it until it is a circular cylinder shape.  (use clear packaging tape or any color tape you'd like)

After establishing a base make sure the hot glue gun is fully heated and begin by gluing one lay of candy canes around the circle.  Make sure each candy cane comes out perpendicular to the tangent line of the circle at each point.  Place the candy cans as close together as possible.

Step 2: Second Layer of Candy Canes

After circling the base once with candy cause go back and insert a secondary level of candy canes between each on the first layer.  Glue between each cane and make sure to really cover it with glue to make it stick.  Continue around the entire wreath until it completes the circle of a very full wreath.

Step 3: Finish by Attaching a Ribbon

Make sure the wreath is secure by going around one more time and filling in where glue may be needed.  Glue from the back (front side down) where you will not see the globs that are holding the canes together.

Attach a ribbon around the ring and cut to the appropriate length.  Add decorative bows or flowers if you would like, I kept this one simple as just a wreath.

Be creative by mixing up different colored candy canes or using various sizes.  Hang it up on a wall or gift it to a family member.  Makes a great treat when the season is over!
