Introduction: Cinnamon Roll French Toast Rollups

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to combine french toast and cinnamon rolls? This recipe is just that. With this delicious recipe, you can do just that.

Step 1: Gathering Materials

The first step to making these are to gather the following materials:

  • 12 slices of white bread
  • 8 tablespoons of softened, unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons cream cheese
  • 2 ½ tablespoons confectioners sugar
  • ¼ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons dark brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons cinnamon powder
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar

Step 2: Preparing the Bread

The first step to creating this recipe is to prepare your bread. I began by picking out 12 slices of white bread that had no holes within them. I then took a large knife, and cut all of the crust off. This left me with crustless squares. Once all of my crust was removed, I disposed of the extra crust. Then, I took a rolling pin and flattened each piece to a thin, but still stable slice.

Step 3: Making the Cinnamon Butter

I began making my cinnamon butter by softening 6 ½ tablespoons of unsalted butter. Then, in a small bowl, I added the softened butter with 4 tablespoons of dark brown sugar, as well as 2 tablespoons of cinnamon powder. Using a hand mixer at the lowest setting, I combined the ingredients within the bowl until smooth.

Step 4: Creating the Roll

The next step within the process of this recipe is creating the roll itself. Taking an individual slice of the bread prepared earlier, you want to cover one side of the bread with the cinnamon butter previously created. Once the full side is coated completely with the cinnamon butter, you want to roll the bread from one end to another. Ensure that the roll is tight so that it does not come apart. Repeat this step for all 12 slices of bread.

Step 5: Creating the Egg Mixture

Before cooking the rolls, you need to coat each roll with an egg mixture. I used one egg, and roughly 3 tablespoons of milk. I whisked the egg before adding the milk, and combined both in a small bowl.

Step 6: Creating the Cinnamon Coating

On a small plate, I combined both cinnamon and sugar to create a cinnamon sugar coating. The amounts of each variable will vary, depending if you want more of a cinnamon taste or not. I used about ½ cups of sugar, and began with 2 tablespoons of cinnamon, adding more cinnamon until I got the desired taste.

Step 7: Cooking the Rolls

To cook the rolls, I prepared a skillet on medium heat, and used around one tablespoon of butter to grease the pan. Using the egg mixture from earlier, I used a pastry brush to brush the mixture onto each individual roll before putting the roll onto the skillet. I kept turning the roll on the skillet until each side was golden brown. I repeated these steps for all twelve rolls.

Step 8: Coating the Rolls

Once I removed each roll from the skillet, I immediately transferred the roll into the plate of cinnamon sugar. I ensured to do this while the roll was hot so that the sugar would stick better. I coated all sides of the roll until completely covered, and transferred to a serving plate. I repeated this for all twelve rolls.

Step 9: Step Eight (Optional): Cream Cheese Dip

Once you have completed step seven, you are ready to serve your rolls. However, you can create a delicious cream cheese frosting dip. In a small bowl, I combined my cream cheese, confectioners sugar, vanilla frosting, and 1 ½ tablespoons of softened butter using a hand mixer on the lowest setting. To make the frosting dip more thin, I poured in milk in gradual increments until I got my desired consistency. You can either dip the rolls into the mixture, or you can use a piping bag, and drizzle it over the rolls. I chose to just dip my rolls.

Step 10: EAT!

After completing all these steps, it is now time to enjoy this delicious treat! Enjoy!
