Introduction: Converting a 1-phase Rectifier Into a 3-phase Rectifier

About: Its all about life hacks, tools, scientific & creativity instructables ~ electron7m

Hi!

This instructable is for teaching you how to convert your normal 1-phase rectifier (also called an AC to DC converter) into a 3-phase rectifier.A 3-phase rectifier is used when u have a 3-phase AC source but u need DC instead for charging your 12V batteries or operating DC LED lights and Motors.

Here is its complete step by step video.

Click here for myyoutube channel :)

Step 1: Rectifier and Diodes:

You will need one single phase bridge rectifier and 2 diodes (use power diodes for better performance)

I have used a 1-phase 35A rectifier and two 6A diodes.

Click here for my youtube channel.

Step 2: Diode Connection:

Connect the diodes as shown in the pics above with a wire connected in between.

Step 3: Rectifier Wiring:

Connectors are to be connected to the terminals of the rectifier as shown in the pictures.

You will then be left with 2 open terminals to which AC connections are to be made.

The connectors are from the 12V 7Ah Lead Acid UPS Battery.

Step 4: Completing the Remaining Circuit:

The 2 diodes have to be connected exactly as shown in the picture. ie The negative terminal of the diode will be connected to the +ve terminal of the rectifier and vise versa.

The tapping point of the 2 diodes will be the 3rd AC input terminal where as the other 2 AC terminal are on the rectifier itself.

Well done!!

Your circuit is complete :) :D

A circuit diagram would be nice. Thanks!

Could you draw the circuit diagram for this as you see it please?

A schematic diagram would be most helpful to understand this circuit, but it looks interesting too, thanks for posting.

That will work and you an even use two bridge rectifier parts and wire them accordingly if you want a cleaner look setup. JMHO
