Introduction: Converting a 1-phase Rectifier Into a 3-phase Rectifier

Hi!

This instructable is for teaching you how to convert your normal 1-phase rectifier (also called an AC to DC converter) into a 3-phase rectifier.A 3-phase rectifier is used when u have a 3-phase AC source but u need DC instead for charging your 12V batteries or operating DC LED lights and Motors.

Here is its complete step by step video.

Step 1: Rectifier and Diodes:

You will need one single phase bridge rectifier and 2 diodes (use power diodes for better performance)

I have used a 1-phase 35A rectifier and two 6A diodes.

Step 2: Diode Connection:

Connect the diodes as shown in the pics above with a wire connected in between.

Step 3: Rectifier Wiring:

Connectors are to be connected to the terminals of the rectifier as shown in the pictures.

You will then be left with 2 open terminals to which AC connections are to be made.

The connectors are from the 12V 7Ah Lead Acid UPS Battery.

Step 4: Completing the Remaining Circuit:

The 2 diodes have to be connected exactly as shown in the picture. ie The negative terminal of the diode will be connected to the +ve terminal of the rectifier and vise versa.

The tapping point of the 2 diodes will be the 3rd AC input terminal where as the other 2 AC terminal are on the rectifier itself.

Well done!!

Your circuit is complete :) :D
