Custard Pie

Introduction: Custard Pie

This Custard Pie is one of my husbands favorites! He absolutely loves this pie. It is like unto a creme brulee or flan. So if you like either of those you will love this.

Step 1: Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • nutmeg sprinkled on top, as much or as little as you would like
Pie crust
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup milk

Step 2: MAking Pie Crust

•  Using a pastry cutter: mix flour, shortening, and salt.
•  Add milk and form into dough
•  Roll out into a pie shape big enough to fit a 9" pie plate
•  Place in your pie plate and take a fork and poke hole in the bottom and around the sides(this prevents shrinking)

Step 3: Making the Pie

Scald your milk. Blend eggs sugar, salt, and vanilla in separate bowl. Gradually stir in scalded milk. Pour into pastry shell sprinkle with nutmeg. Bake at 350 degrees F for 35-40 minutes or until knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. Enjoy!

Looks tasty, but would be easier to re-make, if you add the number of eggs and the amounts of sugar, salt etc. for the custard. And I guess the 350 degrees in the last step are Fahrenheit, since 350°C would turn the thing into charcoal.

Oh man, I can't believe I did that. Guess that's what happens when you are trying to write an instructable and talk to a 3 year old at the same time:) I have fixed it so you can now take on the custard pie experience. Thank you for pointing it out!
