Introduction: DIY Cat Toy: Mouse

This little toy will keep your cat happy and fit with play.

Supplies

  • A cat :)

Tools/Utensils

  • Hot glue gun
  • Glue sticks
  • Bowl
  • Scissors
  • Aluminum Foil

Craft Needs

  • Feathers, any colors (for fur)
  • Stuffing
  • Felt/fabric, any color (for body)
  • Googly eyes
  • String, any color (for tail)
  • Pink or red foam (for nose)
  • 2 Pipe cleaners, preferably 2 different colors (for ears)

Step 1: Cut Fluff

Take your feathers, scissors, and bowl. Cut the vanes (soft parts) of the feathers into small segments, collecting them in the bowl. Do not use the shaft (the middle "stick" of the feather).

Step 2: Place and Warm

Cut out a small piece of aluminum foil to place under the hot glue gun while you work. Plug in the hot glue gun, keeping it on top of the aluminum foil.

Step 3: Cut and Glue

Cut out two circles, each with a diameter of 2.5 inches. Glue each circle together along its circumference (outermost edge), leaving just enough space unglued to fill it with stuffing.

Carefully add stuffing. Then, seal the opening with hot glue.

Fold the glued edges down, underneath itself and toward the center, shaping your mouse into the desired dimensions. Attach the edges to the bottom of the mouse.

Step 4: Place the Bottom

Cut a piece of cloth to cover the entire bottom of the mouse. Glue it to the bottom, covering the bottom of the mouse. To make it easier to size, you may want to cut a 3 inch square, glue it to the mouse, and then trim the sides.

Step 5: Glue and Fur

Lightly spread a small coat of hot glue onto the entire body of the mouse. Stick the fur to the hot glue immediately after appyling the hot glue.

Step 6: A Tail

Take your string and put some hot glue where you're going to put the tail. Place one end of the tail on the mouse. Then, add a bit more hot glue and place more fur onto the back of the mouse to cover the spot where the body and tail meet.

Step 7: I'm All Ears

Take your pipe cleaners and cut them into fourths. Twist 2 pipe cleaner pieces together. Fold the twisted pipe cleaners in half and pull the 2 points up to the top of the point. Then open the middle and then flatten the ear point. to round them out. Place 2 drops on the top of the ear and glue the ends onto the mouse.

Step 8: Have a Sniff

Cut out a small circle out of pink foam. Glue it to the front tip of the mouse to make a nose.

Step 9: No Longer Blind Mice

Take your two eyes and attach them to the face with hot glue.

Step 10: Tada!

Time to play. Your cat won't be able to resist this, and if she can, there's always catnip. Please use responsibly!
