Introduction: DIY Chicken Harness

About: a strong girl fighting for equality a project I'm working on- I'm just starting a project on sexism and what are the most common instances where we see sexism. One part of the project is to get recordings o…

This is a Chicken Harness that is really easy to make, and you don't need very many materials. This little accessory will allow you to walk your chicken in places where there are dogs so that you can regulate how far away they walk away from you.

Materials:

-sewing machine

-fabric

-fray check (explained more later on)

-a nice chicken

-scissors

-ruller

Step 1: Fitting Your Harness to Your Chicken

First you want to take a piece of printer paper and cut into a shape like this. It doesn't need to be perfect because your chicken will most likely be a different size than my silkie. Now you have to put this on your chicken and make any adjustments. The smaller circle should hang around the chickens neck like a necklace and the two other straps should go under each wing and then come up onto the chickens back.

Step 2: Step 2: Cutting

Now lay your paper on the fabric of your choice and trace around the paper but trace about an half an inch away from the paper so that its harder to break if strain is put on it. Then cut out the top circle, and then the bottom one.

Step 3: Step 3: Stopping the Fabric From Fraying

-With all the curves on this piece of fabric it would take a long time to hem it so I decided no to although you can if you want to and skip this step.

You will need to get a fray stopper and the one I get is called Fray Check. You want to apply this to all the sides and it will be wet at first but if you let it dry for 5 min. it will harden and won't be sticky any more.

Step 4: Step 4: Final Sewing

This is the final step! You are going to take one side of the bottom circle and make it into a loop thats about 1 1/2 inches tall. Now cut out a long strip of fabric, mine was 3' long and 1 1/2 inches wide. Folded each side into the middle, ironed it and then sewed it so it was hemmed on both sides, which creates your leash! Now take the other side of the bottom circle and sew your leash onto it.

Step 5: Step 5: Putting It on

Now to put on the harness... First hang the small circle around the chickens neck. Then take the part with the loop and tuck it under the chickens right wing and lay it on your chickens back. then do the same with the leash side but string the leash through the loop and take that chicken on a walk!!
