Introduction: DIY Hot Dog Ring
Hot dogs, a popular scrumptious treat many people enjoy to eat, and now... it's become available to wear. WHAT! TO WEAR? HAS THE WORLD GONE MAD!?! Not yet! Because today I'll be showing you how to make your very own hot dog ring! This cute accessory will add fun to any outfit and I'll teach you just how to make it. Enjoy~!
Step 1: Things You'll Need
- Beige, red, yellow polymer clay
- (Optional) Sculpey Gloss Glaze or glaze of your choice
- (Optional) Dotting tool
- Paint brush
- X-Acto knife
- Tan and brown chalk pastels
- Flat ring base
- Super glue
Step 2: Hot Dog Bun
- Roll your beige clay into a smooth ball and flatten the top with your finger.
- Use your dotting tool to split the middle and form the sides with your fingers to shape the bun. The reason I used a dotting tool is because it was a perfect size to split the clay but you can use anything else that has the same shape.
Step 3: Shading
- Scratch off the chalk pastels with your X-acto knife to a fine powder and use your paintbrush to dab on some color to the buns. I didn't have a reference photo to coloring it so I went with the flow and brushed the whole thing tan and brown on the bottom for shadows.
Step 4: Sausage
- Roll your red clay into a ball and roll it into a long roll. Make sure it's not too thin or too thick, then place it inside the bun to measure how much to cut off from the ends.
- After cutting off the excess, smooth the ends of the sausage.
- Spread the toothpick around the brown chalk pastel on the tip and make small diagonal dents to make grill marks.
Step 5: Mustard
- Roll out a small amount of yellow clay into a thin rope and place it above the sausage.
- Use your finger to help make curves for the mustard.
- Grab your X-acto knife and make small dents on both ends of the sausage then poke the inside of the bun several of times to make a crumbly bread texture.
- Once you're done with that, it's time to bake! Follow your baking instructions on your clay package or preheat the oven to 275 and let it bake for 15 minutes like I did.
Step 6: Finishing Touches
- After the hot dog is completely cooled, you can glaze it afterwards to protect it. I only glazed the sausage and mustard but glazing the whole thing is entirely up to you.
- If you glazed it, wait for about 3 hours to dry and get your ring base ready.
- If you managed to get a ring base that isn't flat then that's ok! I couldn't find any rings with a flat base so I bought any that I could work with. I used pliers to flatten down the sucker and got the ring ready.
- Apply a generous amount of super glue on the ring base and place it on the bottom of the hot dog. Press it down a bit to help it stick and wait about 30 minutes for it to dry.
Step 7: Show Off Your Ring of Deliciousness
