Introduction: DIY Jewelry Hanger
How do you keep your necklaces organized? On A DIY jewelry hanger, that's how! This project is super simple and affordable.
Step 1: What You'll Need
- Wooden hanger
- 17 cup hooks
- Awl
- Paint
- Sandpaper
- Preval Sprayer -- DickBlick.com
- Hammer
- Ruler
Step 2: Prep the Hanger
Lightly sand the hanger in the same direction as the wood grain, and clean the dust off when you finish.
Step 3: Prep the Preval Sprayer
Add 1 ounce of paint and 2 ounces of water. Cap, shake and attach the spray can. Apply several even coats of paint to the hanger, allowing drying time between each.
Step 4: Attach the Cup Hooks
When you’re happy with the finish, gather your ruler, awl and hammer. Tap the top of the awl with the hammer to start a hole at every inch along the hanger. This will make it easier to attach the cup hooks.
When you’re done, hang your favorite necklaces on your brand new, very fashionable jewelry display.
Step 5: Tidbits
The latex paint we used is by Jeff Lewis Color in the shade, "Atlantic". We think it looks rather dapper when paired with the shiny brass cup hooks. It's so handsome, our hanger could even be used as a tie rack!
Also, if you're comfortable, use a drill to start the holes for the cuphooks. This should prevent any potential splits in the wood, and make it even easier to attach the cup hooks.
