Introduction: D.I.Y No Sew T-shirt Bag

Hi there,

In this instructable you will learn how to make a no sew bag from a t-shirt. It is fairly simple. All you will need is either a long sleeve or short sleeve shirt and scissors. This bag can be as big or as small as you make it. You can also personalize it as much as you want. You can draw on it, sew something on or decorate it in any other way. It is also great because you are repurposing an old item and being sustainable. Let’s get started! Hope you enjoy it!

Step 1: Making the Handle

Firstly, let's start by taking a shirt that you don’t want or use anymore. Start by cutting off the collar and the sleeves. For this I would highly recommend using sharp scissors so that you can have a very smooth edge. By cutting the sleeves, you will make the handle for our bag. When making the collar, make sure that you cut it deep because you want the things to go inside the bag easily, (but not too deep.)

Step 2: Cutting the Strips

Once you are done with that, we will be making the base for the shirt. For that, you will have to make 1-2 cm thick strips on the bottom of the shirt. Try not to make the strips too thick because you don't want it to be loose. Here, I would highly recommend you to draw the strips before cutting so that you would get a clear picture of where you need to cut. I would also recommend you to use a ruler to draw the strips so that it will be straight.

Step 3: Tying the Strips

Once you have cut the bottom into strips it is time to tie them. First make sure that the shirt is inside out so that when you are finished with the knots, they are on the inside of the bag. When that is done you want to take the first strip on either side of the shirt. Then you want to tie them together into a knot (as shown in the picture.) I found it best to do a double knot because this ensured that my knot didn’t untie and all my things didn't fall out. You then want to do the same with the rest of the strips. Once you are finished, flip the bag so that it is not inside out and tuck in any strips that are sticking out. (Make sure not to cut them because then the knots start to untie.)

Step 4: You're Done!

Congratulations! You finished your no sew t-shirt bag! You now have a unique, practical and sustainable bag to do your shopping or keep your belongings in. You can decorate the bag to your own liking. We hope you enjoyed and found this project helpful!
