Introduction: DIY Paper Snowflake

About: I love drawing and coming up with my own designs. I love to design patterns and I love drawing them on items. I love reading, and also painting. I love my Instructables community and creating tutorials for peo…

So as you guys know, I love playing with paper. I decided to make a snowflake that I could use to hang up in my office. I absolutely loved it so I decided to share it with you guys. I hope you are able to make one or more and hope you enjoy!!

Step 1: Supplies

For this project you don't need many supplies.
Here's what you'll need.
▪︎6 squares of paper (doesn't matter what size, just depends on how big you want the snowflake.)
▪︎Glue (a glue stick will work as well.)
▪︎Scissors
▪︎Stapler (mini one if you have it)
▪︎Hole punch (optional)

Step 2: Folding the Paper

This step is super easy. We're just going to be folding it into two triangles.
First fold it in half diagonally. Then we're going to fold it in half diagonally again. And you're done.

Step 3: Drawing the Cuts

In this step we are simply going to be drawing the lines we'll cut out in the next step.

First we'll draw a line across the connected side of the triangle. I didn't measure, I just estimated. You just have to get it close enough that we you cut it our and unfold it you can fold it easily. Next you'll draw 3 lines spaced as evenly as you can get. Once you're done with that, this step is complete.

Step 4: Cutting Out the Petals.

In this step we are simply going to be cutting out the petals. Cut along the three lines we just drew. Be sure to cut through both layers of paper. Make sure you don't cut the single line that we drew across the connected side of the triangle.

Step 5: Folding the Petals.

Take the two triangles in the middle and fold them together. Put glue on one side and stick together. See first picture. Flip the piece over once you have completed that. Take the next two pieces and fold them together. Put glue on one side and press together. Once this is dry turn piece over. Take the next two pieces and fold them together. Put glue on one side and press together. Once this is dry turn over. Take the last two pieces and fold them together. Hold them together until they are dry. Repeat the steps until all 6 pieces are finished.

Step 6: Connecting the Petals/flakes

All you are going to do in this step is connect 3 petals together by the edges. I found that if they are all facing the same way it works better. Do this again so you have 2 pieces of 3 petals each. Next you're going to staple the two flat pieces you have together. This is where a mini stapler comes in handy. After this is done you're going to glue the sides together and then you're done.

Step 7: Punching the Hole

This step is optional. You can either hang it up or just leave it sitting. All you're going to do is punch a hole in the corner of one of the flakes. Then put a piece of ribbon or string through the hole and then you're done.
