Introduction: D.I.Y Volcano Slimes
In this instruction set you are going to learn how to make 2 different types of slime to put into your own paper mâchè volcano!
Step 1: Reuable Slime Materials
- School glue (Elmer’s is fine)
- Saline solution/ eye drops *(Ingredients must contain either Boric Acid or Sodium Borate)*
- Fluorescent paint (preferably yellow or pink)
- Baking soda
- Measuring cups
- Spoon
- Large Bowl
- Balloon
- Small soda bottle
- Duct Tape or masking tape
- Scissors or exacto knife* (Adult supervision is required)
Step 2: Mixing
- Pour all contents of school glue into a large bowl
- Add ½ teaspoon of baking soda then mix
- Add ¼ teaspoon of fluorescent paint then mix (quantity may vary)
- Add 1 tablespoon of saline solution then mix (quantity will vary)
Step 3: Kneading
- You will know that the slime is ready to be kneaded once it forms together and starts to be sticky
- After it is sticky, take the slime out of the bowl and start kneading it (like you would dough)
Step 4: Use in the Volcano
- Cut the bottle in half using the top half for the spout
- Place balloon inside the top half of the bottle
- Tape the opening of the balloon to the opening of the top half of the bottle
- Push slime into the opening of the bottle
- Place the your slime contraption underneath your volcano for the opening and wait for the slime to release
Step 5: Storing Slime
Use any kind of small container to store slime at room temperature
Step 6: ALTERNATIVE OOZING SLIME
Things you need:
Safety Goggles
Plastic sheet or trash bag
Rubber Gloves
Medium sized soda bottle
Funnel
Liquid Dish soap
Food colouring
1 package of Dry Active Yeast
Measuring spoons
Small cup
Warm water
Spoon
Hydrogen Peroxide
Step 7: Safety and Clean Up
- Put on your rubber gloves and safety goggles
- Lay down plastic sheet or trash bag on the area you will work at
Step 8: Mixing Part 1
Take the medium soda bottle and pour in 4 ounces of hydrogen peroxide* (here you can and should use the funnel)
Step 9:
Add a squirt of liquid dish soap and food colouring into the bottle
Step 10:
SWIRL DON’T SHAKE the bottle to mix the solution
Step 11: Mixing Part 2
In the small cup mix 1 package of dry active yeast and 4 tablespoons of the very warm water with a spoon* (If mixture is too thick like paste add a small amount of water to thin out the consistency)
Step 12: Use in the Volcano
- Put the medium size bottle underneath the volcano so the bottle opening lines up with the volcano opening
- Use the funnel again to pour the yeast mixture into the bottle with the hydrogen peroxide mixture.
Step 13:
Wait for it to bubble and explode
Step 14: CLEAN UP
Throw away the plastic sheet and you warm water and soap to clean up
