Introduction: Diagonal Nail Design

This is a project for my technical writing class. We were supposed to make instructions on how to accomplish a task. I apologize in advance for the picture quality and how messy my nails are, but I hope this helps whomever is wanted to do a simple design for their nails.

Step 1:

Clean off any dirt or nail polish with either nail polish remover or soap and water.

Step 2:

File your nails down to a straight edge perpendicular to your finger.

Step 3:

Roll the bottle of nail polish (clear, white and your choice of a color, in this instance purple) in between your hands to mix the polish.

Step 4:

Apply the clear polish to all nails covering the entire nail.

Step 5:

Apply the white polish to all nails covering the entire nail. For this first layer it is fine to be able to see the nail through the white polish. (It's okay to be a bit messy)

Step 6:

For your thumbs and ring fingers only, apply another coat of white nail polish so you can not see the nail underneath.

Step 7:

For your index, middle and pinky fingers only apply a single layer of the color of your choice. (It's okay to be a bit messy)

Step 8:

Repeat step 7 until you do not see any of the white polish through the color.

Step 9:

Let all polish dry completely.

Step 10:

Put two pieces of tape longer than your nails on your thumb diagonally covering the upper half of your left thumb and right ring finger.

Step 11:

For your left ring finger and right thumb put two pieces of tape going in opposite directions as in step ten but still covering the upper half of the nail.

Step 12:

Apply one layer of polish to the non-taped side of your thumb and ring finger nails. (It's okay to be a bit messy)

Step 13:

Repeat step 12 until you do not see any white polish through the color.

Step 14:

Carefully remove the tape from your fingers

Step 15:

Using a thin detailing brush draw a line between the white and color of your choice on your thumbs and ring fingers.

Step 16:

Apply the final layer of clear to all the nails covering the entire nail.

Step 17:

Use nail polish remover to clean up any polish not on your nails with a q-tip.
