Introduction: Easy Faux Leather Flower Hair Tie

Easy DIY faux leather flower hair tie. Great project for both adults and kids to create and customize themselves.

Supplies

Faux leather, paper, pencil, scissors, embroidery floss, embroidery needle, button, elastic hair tie.

Step 1: Gather Supplies

Gather all of your needed materials and supplies to use for the project including: faux leather, pencil and paper for sketching/making your flower template, scissors, embroidery floss and needle, and an elastic hair tie.

Step 2: Make Flower Templates

Using your paper and pencil, draw your flowers and then cut them out to create your flower stencils. The example used 3 layers/3 flowers of varying sizes (large to small) to layer together.

Step 3: Trace and Cut Out Flowers From Faux Leather

Using your pencil and flower stencils, trace and cut out the flowers from your faux leather.

Step 4: Layer and Sew Flowers Together With Button

Layer your cut out flowers together in your desired look, flipping the middle layer for added dimension. Using the embroidery needle, pre-poke holes in the center of each flower. Next, using your embroidery needle and embroidery floss, sew through the back side of the flowers exiting through the top small flower then sew through your button then come back through from the top to the bottom, sewing the flowers together with the button in the center, leaving the ends of the floss loose (untied) in the back.

Step 5: Attaching Flower to Hair Tie

Using the loose ends of the embroidery floss, place hair tie on the back side of the flowers and tie flower and hair tie together, knotting to secure. Then with your needle and additional embroidery floss, loop through and around the back of the hair tie and back layer of the flower several times to secure the hair tie to the flower. Tie off and knot when hair tie holds in place (no longer loose). Your flower hair tie is now ready to wear and enjoy!
