Introduction: Experiment With Soda Can

About: My name is Alex and I like to do it all with my own hands. I'm fond of arduino and I like to invent different constructions on it.

Once on the Internet I saw an interesting effect with a can of soda and at first I thought it was a fake. But after much deliberation, I realized that it was real. In this tutorial, I'll show you what I did.

Step 1: Watch the Video

Step 2: Danger

This experiment may harm your health. The experiment is carried out with chemical reagents (alkali). Therefore, when working you need to use gloves and goggles. Also, for safety, you need to keep an acetic acid solution next to it for neutralization.

Step 3: Material:

- soda can

- means for clearing pipes (on alkali base)

- sandpaper

- glass container

- copper wire

- wooden stick

Step 4: Preparing a Can

Using sandpaper to get rid of the paint layer on the can. Do not rub hard to make a hole. Then, through the prodinte can’s ring, wire and fasten it on a wooden stick

Step 5: Reaction

We can observe the reaction of alkali with aluminum.

2Al + 6NaOH 2NaAlO2 + 3H2 + 2Na2O

The reaction is exothermic so much heat is released. Be careful not to burn yourself.

Also try not to inhale the gas that is released. The experiment should be carried out on the street or in a well-ventilated room.

Step 6: Neutralization

After you see that your bank has become transparent, you must carefully take it and place it first in acid (for example, acetic acid) and then in soda. Only after that it can be taken in hand.

Step 7: Clear Soda Can

Strange as it may seem, but as a result we got a transparent jar of soda. This happened because the soda can has three layers: paint, aluminum and food film. And after the toga as we got rid of the two layers by different methods, the last layer began to hold the drink itself and got such a great effect.
