Introduction: Foam Cutter

About: My name is Alex and I like to do it all with my own hands. I'm fond of arduino and I like to invent different constructions on it.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to make a do-it-yourself foam cutting machine. This machine is capable of cutting polystyrene at any angle, which makes it possible to produce products of polystyrene foam of various shapes with high accuracy.

Step 1: Materials:

- Plywood (10 mm)

- Manual jigsaw

- Nichrome wire

- Metal corners

- Bolts, nuts, screws

- Power supply (5V 2A)

Step 2: Box

I made a body for the machine from plywood. I cut a square (30cm x 30cm), two rectangles (29cm x 4cm) and one rectangle (30cm x 4cm). Then with the help of self-tapping screws I connected everything. Then I drilled a hole in the center of the square. Also, using a jigsaw, I sawed a line parallel to the front of the machine.

Step 3: Wire Tensioner

I made a wire tensioner from an old hand jigsaw. I took off the handle and instead screwed on two corners, which I then screwed to the machine body. Between the corner and the jigsaw, I pasted the electrical tape and put two pieces of cardboard, between which a nichrome tape will be clamped .The design from two corners will allow you to adjust the angle of inclination of the tensioner.

Step 4: Power Supply

I connected one end of the power supply directly to the nichrome wire, which is clamped by the tensioner. I connected the other end of the power supply directly to the housing of the tensioner (jigsaw).

Step 5: Cutting

It remains only to turn on the power supply and you can create. You can see some features of this machine in my video. Thanks for watching my lesson.
