Introduction: Fingerless Chainmaille Gloves

After collecting 100+ tabs from soda and other cans, I was ready to make something.  Unfortunately, I did not have enough for a shirt.

While weaving some tabs together I decided that the maille looked really good on my hands. And so this project came into creation.

If you decide to use this I would love to see it! :)

In case you need more help with the maille there is this:

Step 1: Materials

 You will need:

At least 70 tabs (30-35 per hand)
Stapler remover to bend the tabs

A pair of jeans with at least one leg intact

Needle and thread

Scissors
Something to cut the tabs with

Step 2: Cut Out the Gloves

Trace around you hand and add another inch or so to it. It is okay if the bottom is really wide. We are going to fix that later.

For the bottom of the gloves, cut out 2 strips of fabric each 9-10 inches in length. Do this again for the other glove.
To cut down on sewing go ahead and cut 1 strip per glove 18-20 inches long.

The strips I used are almost 2 inches thick. You can go thicker or thinner but the thinner it is the easier it will be to tie on later.

Step 3: Sew It Together

Close up the gloves but make sure to leave a hole for your thumb. I used the zig-zag stitch because it did not seem like it would hold very well other wise.

Sew the strip to the bottom end of the glove. Make sure to center it so that you will have a tail that is equal on both sides.
Remember that your thumb is not on the same side on both of your hands.

Remember: do not sew the strip all the way around.

You will need the ends to be free to hold them later.

Check out the notes on all the pictures, they are important!

Step 4: Attach the Chainmaille

 Now for the hard part.

Start with a foundation of 6 or so tabs. These tabs do not need to be cut at the top. It will be better if you don't cut these. Be sure to bend them, though!

Step 5: Wear and Enjoy~!

Congratulations ~! Your fingerless chainmaille gloves are done! Now go! Strike fear into thine enemies!
