Introduction: Fix BObi's Touch Sensors

About: Hi, I am bObi -the latest addition to the bObsweep family! My fiancé Bob and I, love to clean! We are obsessed with making your floors shiny and dust-free. Enjoy my instructables guides and feel free to come …

bObi has 80 touch sensors around her front bumper. They are activated whenever bObi bumps into any obstacle so she can move away. If they are not responding properly during bObi's check up test, try replacing the touch sensor strip inside bObi. You'll need a Phillips head screwdriver for this repair.

Step 1: Remove the Front Wheel

Before we get started, turn bObi Pet OFF and flip her over onto a flat surface. Next, remove the dustbin.

You will then need to remove bObi Pet’s front wheel. Grip the wheel with your hand and pull straight up, using the screwdriver for leverage.

Behind the wheel are two screws. There is a larger screw set deeper in the wheel compartment. Use the screwdriver to remove it. (Highlighted Blue)

Keep this screw, and all other screws removed from bObi Pet for later reassembly.

Step 2: Remove the Brush Attachment

For the next step, remove the screws on both sides of the dustbin.

Then, remove the corner pieces that were held down by the screws. (Highlighted Green)

Pull the main brushes down to expose 2 smaller screws on a red fastener. Remove both screws and lift the brush fastener out. (Highlighted Yellow)

Step 3: Start Opening BObi

Pull the brush compartment up until it is freed from bObi. Then, detach the brush compartment and set it aside. (Highlighted Pink)

Remove the 4 screws located beneath the brush compartment.(Highlighted Blue)

Remove the two screws on the dustbin's red fastener. (Highlighted Green)

Remove the fastener and set it aside for reassembly.

When all are removed, bObi's cover will no longer be secured. Very carefully flip bObi onto her wheels.

Step 4: Disconnect the Cover Circuit Plugs

Lift the cover to reveal the main board underneath. Remove the two circuit plugs connecting the lid to the mainboard. (Highlighted Pink)

Now you're ready to replace any of bObi's internal parts.

Step 5: Unplug the Touch Sensor Strip

The sensor strips underneath bObi's 80 exterior touch sensors are attached to the cover circuit board by two wires, one red one white.

The circuit plug on the left communicates with bObi's right half of touch sensors. (Highlighted Blue)

The plug on the right controls bObi's left half of touch sensors. (Highlighted Pink)

Remove the appropriate touch sensor's circuit plug from the cover's circuit board.

Step 6: Remove the Touch Sensor Wires

Feed both wires towards the end of the bumper.

Continue along the inside edge of the bumper until the wires are unhooked from each holder. (Highlighted Green)

Then, pull both out from the post at the bumper's edge. (Highlighted Blue)

Pull each wire to the side to disconnect it from the touch sensor adapter.

Step 7: Put in the New Sensor Plug

Plug in the white wire to the bottom touch strip connector, and the red one on top.

Tuck the wires behind the white post at the end of the bumper. Then, feed them back through the hooks until you reach the circuit board.

Firmly press the circuit plug for the replacement sensor in to the open space.

Step 8: Connect the Front Wheel

Attach the circuit plugs from bObi's cover back on her main board.

The yellow-wired plug connects to the right side of the mainboard, closer to bObi's right wheel. (Highlighted Pink)

The white-wired plug attaches to the middle of the circuit board. (Highlighted Red)

Lay down bObi's cover and line up the edges precisely. While holding bObi’s top and bottom together, carefully flip her over onto a flat surface.

Next, reinstall the front wheel’s screw. (Highlighted Blue)

Place the front wheel on top and firmly push down to secure it.

Step 9: Secure the Cover Screws

Replace the dustbin's fastener and install its two screws. (Highlighted Yellow)

Install the four screws that were previously found in the space under the main brush compartment. (Highlighted Green)

Step 10: Attach the Brushes

Plug in the brush compartment. (Highlighted Yellow)

Then, replace its red brush fastener over the screw posts inside bObi and install the 2 screws. (Highlighted Green)

Position the brush compartment back in its original place.

Step 11: Replace the Dustbin

Now reinsert the corner pieces on both sides of the dustbin, with the arms of the brush attachment linked. (Highlighted Pink)

These corner pieces must line up correctly with the brush attachment and hold it in place.

Make sure the rubber strip on bObi is not stuck under the brush compartment.

Then, install the 2 screws securing them on bObi. (Highlighted Red)

Make sure the dustbin slides in easily before using bObi again.
