Introduction: Ford Escape Tailgate Fix

About: Dad and hubby, good food enthusiast, solar energy, boating, making stuff, melting stuff, and raising chickens.

Older Ford Escapes have a problem where the tailgate doesn't want to electronically lock or unlock unless it's cold outside; even then it's iffy. Every time I want to put something big in the back it doesn't want to open. Super annoying! This is a one-step free solution to make it work; it's also my shortest instructable ever.

Tools: drill and hole saw

Step 1: Drill Here

On the inside of the tailgate carefully use a 2" hole saw and drill through the plastic trim panel about in the center. Drill just enough to go through the plastic. Done! Now one can jiggle the mechanical rod up to unlock and down to lock.
