Introduction: Fur and Suede Winter Cloak
This cloak is remarkably warm! I play a live-action role-play game called Amtgard; and I’ve worn these cloaks in below 0 degree winter nights for hours on end, and have been warm and toasty. Make one, and be the warmest person you know this winter. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to send me a post and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Step 1: Step 1
This is the pattern you will use for this cloak. Size will vary from person to person, but the shape will stay the same. Start with the suede.
This will be the outer material for the cloak.
Step 2: Step 2
First, sew the two (A) pieces together with the seam on the inside.
Step 3: Step 3
Then, do the same with the (C) pieces. The (C) section will be your hood.
Step 4: Step 4
Step 5: Step 5
Step 6: Step 6
Sew the lines that the arrows are pointing to, but do it in the inside. This is where your shoulders rest.
Step 7: Step 7
Step 8: Step 8
Remember that the fur is the lining (or “inside”) of the cloak, so make sure the fury part is facing the right direction.
Step 9: Step 9
This is not required, but it is a nice touch. Choose a design, cut it out, and pin it to the back of the cloak (the suede).
Step 10: Step 10
Start by making a straight stitch as close to the edge of the design as possible. Then, cut off the excess material.
Step 11: Step 11
This part is called satin stitchappliqué. For those who don’t know, this is a very close zigzag stitch that attaches one piece of fabric to another. Note that each line must be sewn two to three times to make it nice and neat, without gaps. Make sure you practice before you appliqué on your cloak.
Step 12: Step 12
Step 13: Step 13
Sew the inside of the hoods together along the neckline.
Step 14: Step 14
Roll the fur over the suede on the rim of the hood and sew it down.
Step 15: Step 15
Roll the fur over the suede on the rim of the arm holes and sew it down.
Step 16: Step 16
Roll the fur over the suede on the rim of the front openings and sew it down.
Step 17: Step 17
Step 18: Step 18
And that’s it!! :)

This is something else! I think it would look really good with black instead of red, greyish fur, and silver designs instead of white/cream. I might try this sometime! My siblings and I make medieval movies together, and this would be perfect for an elven queen maybe. Thanks for sharing!
Question 1 year ago on Step 1
So, I know you said the shape would stay the same, but how, exactly, do you calculate the A, B, and C shapes for someone?
I'm guessing the relevant measurements would be a neck measurement for the collar/hood, a shoulder width measure for the top of the trapezoids, and a height measurement between shoulders and the ground, etc. but what are the measurements relationship to the pattern?

EVERYTHING IS FAUX!!!! im so sorry for not mentioning that before. I deplore animal cruelty in any form.

I believe if anyone wants to wear real fur they should raise the animal before wearing it. I have a couple rabbit pelts from when i bred. However, they were still loved and properly cared for until they became food. Unlike animal industry...

I guess it didn't post the first time if it did I apologize for repeating myself but I want to make one using real pelts and a detachable mantle/half cloak and I wondered if you have a pattern for that.

I'm assuming you used faux fur. My question for you is if you know of a method using actual pelts. I want to make my wife one for her birthday. But I wanted to make it with a detachable mantle/half cloak. Perhaps you have a pattern?
