How I apply my 'Good Guys' Battery Stickers

Step 1: Preparing the Batteries

In this step, we are preparing the batteries for their new, custom 'Good Guys' stickers.

Photo 1) Original Battery

Photo 2) Remove the original battery sticker, then clean away all the sticky residue using isopropyl alcohol wipes. If you dont have any alcohol wipes, you could maybe use some mens aftershave cologne dipped onto a cloth or toilet paper.

Photo 3) If your battery has a brown cardboard ring(as seen in photo 3 and 4), then you can use metallic paint to disguise it.

I use Vallejo Model Air - Metallic Silver(71.065), but any metallic colour should be OK.

I highly recommend Vallejo's Model Air brand of paint though. They are super easy to apply.

Use a quality Synthetic Fiber Paintbrush(I use an Angelus - Flat - Size 6 Paintbrush).

Shake the paint bottle well, and put a small amount of paint on your brush(Look at my photos to see how much paint I use)

Photo 4) Start by placing your paintbrush close the the metal part and then paint towards the edge of the battery. Just one stroke should be enough coverage. Rotate the battery, and repeat the process until all the brown is painted silver.

Photo 5) Now paint the edge of the brown cardboard also. Just one brush stroke is enough coverage. Rotate the battery, and repeat the process until all the brown is painted silver.

Photo 6) This is how it should look after painting is complete.

IMPORTANT NOTE : Wait a few hours for the paint to dry before moving on to the next steps, or it will peel off as seen in my next photos!

Step 2: Making a Guide Line

In this step, we are making a guide line, which is important for applying the sticker nice and straight.

Photo 1) Make sure you perform this step on a stable surface like a table or workbench.

Start by laying the battery on its side.

Place something like a pencil or ceramic tile next to the battery, and hold them both firmly. This is to act like a ruler for drawing a straight line on the battery.

Slide your pencil along the other pencil(or ceramic tile) to draw a line onto the battery. You might need to go back and forth a few times with the pencil to make sure the line is clearly visible.

Note: If you use a pencil as your guide(like I am in the photos), then you might need someone else to hold it for you, while you draw the line.

Step 3: Applying the Sticker - Part A

In this step, we are applying the sticker, using the pencil line we made in the previous step.

Photo 1) Start by laying the battery flat on your table/workbench. If it rolls or slides around on your table, place a kitchen towel or tissue paper underneath it to stop it from moving too much.

Photo 2) IMPORTANT!!! For this step, make sure you are applying the sticker the correct side up, and not upside down! Now, peel just a small piece of backing paper from your 'Good Guys' Sticker. (Approximately half an inch), then apply it onto the battery, using the pencil guide line. Now before removing all of the backing paper, test fit the sticker by wrapping it around the battery, and see if it lines up perfectly. If it doesn't, remove the sticker and reapply it again, but slightly adjust the position. Test fit it around the battery again to see if it lines up nicely. Repeat until the test fit is successful, then remove the rest of the backing paper, and continue to next step....

Photo 3) Copy the way I am holding the sticker, and very carefully stick it onto the battery, using the straight pencil line as your guide.

Photo 4) Rub along the edge of the sticker with your thumb to make it stick good, and to remove any possible air bubbles.

Step 4: Applying the Sticker - Part B

Photo 1) Now is the time to remove the rest of the stickers backing paper.

Photo 2) Now grip the sticker with your index finger and thumb, and pull it to the side. Keep the side pulling pressure and rotate the battery a small amount at a time.

As you rotate the battery, focus your eyes on the TOP edge of the Battery, and concentrate on lining the TOP edge of the Sticker up to it. Just keep your eyes on this area as you rotate the battery and stick a bit down at a time. Make sure to use a small amount of pulling pressure when rotating the battery.
