Introduction: Halloween Mobile!

This is a basic mobile craft I made for families to do together! It's a simple craft that can be used as a fun decoration for the home for Halloween! Since I wanted to make things accessible to adults and children alike, a lot of these materials and methods can be modified. I'll be including some modifications and optional steps. Hope you all enjoy this fun and easy craft!

Materials:

- writing utensil

- hot glue gun

- wire hanger

- black string

- (optional) a second plastic hanger

- (optional) wire cutters

- (optional) black paint + paintbrush

- scissors

- white fabric

- black puffballs

-black pipe cleaners

- black and white construction paper

- google eyes

- styrofoam balls

Step 1: Mobile Structure

For this step, we will be constructing the basic structure of the mobile. For this step, you'll need:

- wire hanger + optional plastic hanger

- black string

- optional wire cutters

Using the wire hanger, untwist the hanger top, and form it into a circle. To avoid using wire cutters, I removed the head off of a plastic hanger and used that for the top of the mobile. If you choose to use the wire cutters, then cut the top off of the wire hanger instead.

After this, cut four pieces of your black string and tie it in four spots on the wire circle. Then, tie these to the hanger head to create your basic mobile shape.

Then, cut four more pieces of string. You will be securing these to where the other pieces of string are attached to the hanger and they'll hang off the mobile. This will be where you add your fun creatures!

Step 2: OPTIONAL! Painting the Mobile

If you want to, you can choose to paint the hanger black to match the string! I did this in my mobile, but this is entirely optional!

Step 3: Bats!

In this step, we will be creating the bats!

For this, you'll need:

- black and white construction paper

- writing utensil

- scissors

First, create a stencil of a bat on white construction paper. Then, cut this out. This is what you'll be using to make all of your bats!

Then, begin tracing the stencil on the black paper and cutting out the bat shapes, as many as you'd like.

To add dimension, I folded mine along the center and the wings! This is optional though!

Step 4: Ghosts!

In this step, we will be making the ghosts. For this, you will need:

- styrofoam balls

- white fabric

- google eyes

- hot glue gun

First, take your white fabric (this doesn't need to be fancy, I just used an old T- shirt!) and cut a small square. It doesn't have to be perfect!

Then, using your scissors, make the edges of the fabric square ragged! This makes it look more like your traditional ghost.

After this, place the styrofoam ball in the middle of the fabric square and hot glue it.

Lastly, glue some google eyes on and you've got a spooky ghost!

Step 5: Spiders

In this step, we will be making the spiders! For this, we'll be using:

- black puffballs

- black pipe cleaners

- scissors

- hot glue gun

Cut 8 small pieces of the black pipe cleaners. Then, using hot glue, attach these to the back of the black puffballs.

Repeat this step as many times as you like!

Step 6: Finishing Touches!

To finish, use your hot glue to attach your Halloween creatures onto the string dangling off of the mobile.

Optionally, you can use your remaining black puffballs to decorate the empty space on your string.

Then, hang and enjoy your new fun decoration!
