Introduction: Harold and the Purple Crayon Wall Art

About: I am a conceptual artist, and my DIY projects are mostly inspired by pop culture (movies, music, sports, TV). I mostly specialize in painting, graphic design, drawing, digital photography, performance art, and…

Inspired by the classic children's book "Harold and the Purple Crayon", this purple-infused wall art goes way beyond the typical childhood imagination!

Step 1: Materials List

Here's how to do to do it. You will need...

  • a large piece of plywood
  • white paint
  • sponge brush
  • purple crayon
  • purple string (yarn works best)
  • scissors
  • glue gun
  • Optional: purple glitter / felt shapes / stickers etc. (not shown)

Step 2: Prep Plywood

To begin, paint the plywood with white and let dry. If you remember from the book, Harold draws with his purple crayon on a white background.

Step 3: Add a Purple Crayon

Now, grab a purple crayon and use hot glue to attach it to the bottom corner of your plywood.

Step 4: Add Purple Yarn and Other Embellishments

Now, cut a few pieces of purple yarn and let your imagination run free! You can even throw on some purple glitter, felt shapes, and even stickers to jazz up your wall art! That's optional, but you don't necessarily have to do it! Anything goes, as long as there's lots of purple in it!

Step 5: Hang Them Up

Now, you can hang up your purple masterpiece on your wall! Of course, purple is one of the colors that represents creativity, and in addition, you won't be disappointed about not drawing anything on your own walls! After all, it IS wall art!
