Introduction: HomeMade Smartphone Film Scanner
INTRODUCTION:
Photography is one of my favorite hobby.,Way back then,i used to have my Kodak camera,an analog camera.For me to shoot or take some photos in special occasions,like Christmas,birthdays or any event.And camera was the best gadget to capture those precious moments to treasure the memories later on with you.For some reason,our memories in pictures were lost or destroyed.,But luckily,some of us keep those negative films or slides in our closet.,And the most effective way of retrieving those lost photos is to redeveloped those films.And the most and cost effective way to do is to scan it and invert it again into positive digital form.And our smartphones today have the capabilities to do that "to scan films".So we can easily share with our family and friends those captured lomographic images in our favorite social networking sites.
And that inspires me to build one for myself.

Step 1: Materials and Tools Needed
Materials and Tools needed:
•a smartphone
•6 superbright white LED
•100 ohm resistor
•5 to 9 vdc power supply
-powerbank or phone charger
-or a 9 volt battery.
•i used iPhone tray (included in the box of every iPhones)as the "Light Diffuser" or use
-white acrylic flexiglass
40mmx65mm
(1-2mm thickness)
•a box for casing
-i used powerbank casing
•some wires
•Glue
•Soldering lead
•Soldering iron
•multi tester(optional only)
•and other tools that maybe needed like scissors,cutter,pencils and rulers.
•a smartphone

Step 2: How to Build
STEPS:
1.Gather all the materials and tools needed listed above.
2.Get the necessary App suitable for your smartphone model.
(links of the App will be provided at some part of this instructibles)
3.Prepare the LEDS to be soldered together in Parallel Connections(see wiring diagrams)
4.Test the LED LIGHTS by plugging it on your dc supply-(i used powerbank here)if it glow as intended .,Your good to go assembling other parts needed for this project.,if LED dont lit its light ..,check your wirings.
5.Cut a two slot on both opposite side of your iPhone tray for negative film insert.(As seen on images).And cut also a slot on your case alligning to your film tray for easy inserting the film
6.Place the Negative film tray on top of LED light arrangement which was already glued on your box or casing.I made my LED lights removable for easy repair.
7.Mine was design not to put Hole on top platform of casing for camera view as im using a transparent box.If your using an opaque casing you should put a hole on top casing platform for your smartphone's camera.
8.Test your project by inserting your negative film on your film tray and turn on the LED lights.,On your smartphone - Launch your lomographic app you downloaded and use it and try capturing the image of your negative film.
9.If you're successful capturing a lomograph on your smartphone.,Try enhancing the image captured using the lomograph app's prebuilt editing features or try editing it again using your favorite photo Editing Apps,or just use the prebuilt image editing Options on your phone.
10.So there you go.,you just save yourself from spending big amount of cash to develop your negative films in a photo lab.

Test your project and the app you just downloaded before finalizing your project.
Step 4: Final Test and Results
As i made some minor modifications on my project.I reRun a final test by capturing images on my films.While documenting the project.

•Image -show how easy for me to disassemble it when needed.

This project resulted two uses.,As you can see in the image.,i can also use it as a Lamp when i need to.

A better scanner resolution will mean a better quality scan of your photo, so it’s really important. It’s best to look for a scanner that gives you a resolution of at least 3000 dpi. Ignore any talk of ‘interpolation’ when picking your scanner – Interpolation basically means that the scanner guesses what color pixels are supposed to be; not what you want for an accurate image.

Step 10: Result
So there it goes again,another DIY project that's easy to built.,You can build this kind of project as small or as compact as you want.,And that will depends on builders taste and availability of materials lying around that seems useless to you.like shoe box,an old wooden case,a jewelry box or even a crayon or pencil case will do.Recycling materials is a good habit.,And revive those old stock 35mm films hiding in your closet.,and be amazed and smile seing pictures alive again..,see the reminiscense of those treasured moments we even forgotten that it happened.
