Introduction: Homemade Airsoft Grenade Launcher Powered by Co2
This is a homemade grenade launcher for your airsoft guns. It has an inner high pressure chamber. This launcher uses 12g Co2 cartidges to pressurize the chamber. You can either glue the shell down or make an interchangeable system. ALWAYS refer yourself to the images. A picture is worth a thousand words!!! ;)
Video demonstration
Step 1: Materials
For this instructables you will need the following materials:
-2 piece of 1.5 inch abs pipe (1 feet long each)
-2 1.5" coupler
-2 1/2" metal ball valve
-2 1/2" nipple
-2 3/4" to 1/2 reducer
-1 3/4" nipple 2 1/2" long
-Teflon tape
-Thumb tac
-Abs cement
-1 Dollarama spring party popper
-2 electrical wire cap
-1 toillet or sink pipe (refer to picture) 20" long
-Co2 cartridge
-BB
-Electrical tape
Tools needed:
-Hot glue gun
-Dremel with sanding disk
-Saw
-Cutters
-Wrench
First, you will need to assemble the pieces like so.
Step 2: Grenade Launcher Shell
Disassemble the dollarama party popper and keep only the tube. You need to remove the bumps and line inside the tube. Mesure 8 lenght of toillet or sink pipe, cut them then glue them with the hot glue gun. Glue an electrical cap in the center at each end. Make a little lip so that the bbs don't fall in the launcher on one side of the shell.
Step 3: Plumbing
You need to assemble the plumbing parts in this configuration. ADD A LOT OF TEFLON! In the bottm of the 3/4" cap, glue the thumb tac with the hot glue gun. BE SURE IT IS CENTERED.
Step 4: Moding the Ball Valve Handles
Take the wrench and remove the handles on the bal valves. Then unfold the legs on the handles and screw them back in.DO BOTH.
Step 5: Cutting the Abs: the Co2 Chamber and Valve
The lip of the 3/4" cap must be on the edge of the abs pipe. From there draw a mark like in the picture. Once you noted the edge of the bolt, cut a piece of abs like in the picture. Add some electrical tape around the edge of the reducer to make it fit snuggly in the 1.5" pipe. Then, mesure the place were you are going to cut and to install a coupler. (refer to picture). Once this is done, glue it down. Take your other piece of abs pipe and cut a piece of pipe the length of a coupler. Glue this piece to a coupler then, glue the assembly to the coupler of the Co2 chamber and valve.
Step 6: Cutting the Abs: the Pressure Chamber, Firing Valve, Shell
Now that the first half of the launcher is done. It's time to do the other half. Be sure to refer yourself to the pictures below. The step for cutting the abs are the same than the previous step. This time use the other abs pipe. Be sure to leave a space after the vlave nut for a couple.
Step 7: Assembly of the 2 Halfs
Just follow the pictures.
Step 8: Finish Product and How to Use.
Your launcher is finally complete. You can either glue the shell down or make a locking mecanism. Insert a 12g Co2 cartridge in the Co2 chamber like in the picture. Load the shell with BB's. Give a nice bang on the Co2 chamber so that the thumb tac pierces the Co2 cartridge's lid. Pressurize the chamber then FIRE!!.

This is not spam, but a warning. PVC will fail suddenly after a while. This was band member that hurt badly by a T-Shirt launcher explosion.

about the co2 cartridge: where to get it? is it used for paintball guns? or maybe for a soda machine?
Reply 14 years ago on Introduction
those ones, sometimes are used for paintball guns, but they are more commonly used for bb guns and air rifles. they are also relatively common for CO2 powered airsoft guns. you should be able to find them either online, or the sporting goods section of your local department store, by the airsoft and paintball guns.
